New Coach Development Program
As most of you in the sailing community probably already know, the NCCP is currently in the midst of a transition to a competency-based approach to coach education and training, where a coach is trained and may achieve certification to coach a specific type of participant, for example white sail, or bronze sail, in a particular coaching environment. For sailing, one of the main differences between this new approach and the old NCCP is that there is no longer the same linear progression that coaches are familiar with (green then blue then...). For example, a new instructor can choose to become a Bronze Sail coach first.
New Brunswick future coaches, and current coaches obtaining additional levels, will follow the new coaching pathway shown below. More information on the new LTS coaching levels can be found on the next page. Existing coaches can still teach the Learn-to-Sail programs that their levels allow until there certification expires (Typically 4 years from when they were certified).
