16 & Under Regatta Report
July 6th, 2008: The Silver Fox Sailing & Curling Club in Summerside PEI, was the host for this years CYA 16 & Under Eastern Intermediate Regatta. This is the second regatta for many members of the New Brunswick Sailing Team. This is the site for the 2009 Canada summer games so many sailors came to the event not only to compete but to train at the actual Canada Games venue.
YOTS Friday: There was a great turnout for the Youth Olympic Training Seminar on the day before the start of the regatta. Competitors went sailing and were exposed to top level coaches from across the country. The sailing started off with a steady 10 - 15 knot winds but the wind quickly dropped to 3 knots after only a couple of hours, so the day was cut a couple minutes short.
Day 1 - Saturday: The long day of racing saw 11 Laser Radials and 4 Bytes complete 5 races between 10:30 AM and 6:00 PM. The winds were very light during the first part of the day even resulting in the second race being abandoned due to the time limit expiring for boats reaching the first mark. The wind gradually grew to about 13 knots as the day progressed.
Day 2 - Sunday: The final day of the CYA 16 & Under Eastern Intermediate Regatta was a great success with 3 races being completed for the Radial and Byte Fleets. Thanks to the organizing authority for running a successful regatta. Congratulations to all of the New Brunswick Sailors who all placed in this regatta. Great work.
