Laser Canadians & The Bay The Wind The Regatta Report

July 20th, 2008: The St. Margaret Sailing Club in Nova Scotia was host to this years Laser Class Canadian Championships which ran in parallel with the clubs annual “The Bay The Wind The Regatta” event. There was a fantastic turnout with 33 Lasers, 61 Laser Radials, 2 Laser 4.7s, 8 29ers, 26 420’s, 11 Bytes, 5 CII’s, and 46 Opti;s. New Brunswick was well represented with having multiple boats in almost every class. The regatta also lived up to its reputation of good winds. Every day of the event started out with light winds but quickly built up to 10 to 15 knots by the time racing was underway. Near perfect conditions. The laser classes were able to get off all of there scheduled 9 races with the other classes having 3 to 4 races per day.

The top New Brunswick Sailing Team results saw Thomas Nicholson win the Byte CII class, Alex Black and Kelvin Gilliland were forth in the 29er Class, and Catherine Richards was 19th in the Laser Radial Class after recovering from a bottom mast section breakage on the first day of racing. Congrtulations to all New Brunswick sailors on an outstanding performance at this event.
