CORK Regatta Report
August 23rd, 2008: Kingston Ontario once again hosted its annual CORK regatta and as usual it was a great success. There were 164 Laser Radials, 91 Lasers, 3 Laser 4.7's, 9 Laser Twos, 11 Bytes, 19 Byte CII's, 9 470's, 52 420's and 65 29er's. The first two day of the events were the qualifiers for the different gold, silver, and bronze fleets for many of the classes. The conditions were good with up to 15 knots of wind on both days. The third day saw winds of excess of 20 knots. For safety reasons the RC kept all but the Gold fleets on land. The lucky ones who did get to sail were treated to some big winds and waves which resulted in a good sleep that night. The final two days of the event saw much lighter winds as the low pressure systems that gave us great wind for the first three days moved on.
The New Brunswick Sailing Team had a good showing at the event. Thomas Nicholson came first in the Byte CII class and won a trip to the Byte CII Worlds in Europe. Catherine Richards came 33rd in the Laser Radial Gold fleet. Alex Black and Kelvin Gilliland cam in 14th in the 29er Silver fleet, and Meredith Evans and Erin Moir came 34th in the 29er Silver Fleet.
